Teacher student share Snapchat

A teacher has been accused of r.a.ping and exchanging naughty photographs with a 13-year-old boy. Mary M.... , age 32, was held overnight at the Benton County Jail and appeared in front of a judge Thursday for a bond hearing. She was released later in the day on $50,000 bond, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

McCormick is listed on Siloam Springs Intermediate School’s website as a sixth-grade teacher named “Faith McCormick”.

Siloam Springs detectives began investigating McCormick Aug. 8 amid reports she engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a young teenager. The incidents occurred between June and August, according to the Siloam Springs Police Department.

Through the investigation, police said they collected evidence suggesting there was an exchange of electronic messages, photographs and a sexual relationship between McCormick and the alleged victim.

A probable cause affidavit states the two had consensual sex at least twice. Under Arkansas law, “consensual” sex between an adult and an underage minor is considered rape because the minor cannot legally consent.

The encounters began after a friend dared the 13 year old to contact McCormick, the affidavit states. In one instance, the boy and a friend went over to the teacher’s apartment to watch a movie. The friend left, but the 13 year old stayed and later had s.e.x with the teacher in her bedroom, the affidavit states.

The teacher and student sent each other “Snap Chat” messages of each other’s genitalia during the s.e.xual relationship, police said. A 12-year-old female friend of the victim said she discovered one of the Snap Chats accidentally after borrowing the victim’s phone. The message showed McCormick wearing nothing but a towel, along with s.e.x.ual comments, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Investigators later confiscated two USB thumb drives, an Apple iPad, two Apple iPhones and a desktop computer in connection with the case. Police said they searched McCormick’s Snap Chat account and found multiple photographs and videos of the victim, along with a photograph of a woman’s breasts believed to belong to McCormick.

An eyewitness told police she saw several inappropriate sexual messages and photographs while looking through the victim’s iPhone, including one of McCormick with wet hair while showing her breasts. The accompanying text stated, “I’m not dirty anymore,” the probable cause affidavit states. The eyewitness said she also saw other messages showing a romantic relationship between the victim and McCormick, the affidavit states.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

The suspect’s Facebook page shows she has a husband and at least one daughter.

Everyone loves a Favorite teacher

At Columbia High School in Maplewood, students said Nicole D.... had a reputation for being a nice, easygoing and understanding teacher.

“She was basically everybody’s favorite teacher,” one female student said.

But outside the school today on Parker Avenue, students offered mixed reactions to the allegations that Dufault s.e.x.u.a.lly assaulted five male students at the school.

Some said they were surprised to hear about the charges handed down this week against Dufault, who is facing multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

“She’s nice…She’s not the person that you would expect to do that,” said a male student, who declined to give his name.

Other students, however, indicated there had been rumors about sexual activity between Dufault and the students. Some students claim a video has been circulating at the school that allegedly depicts Dufault having sex with a student.

Asked about the alleged video, Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office, said in an email: “We can't comment on evidence.”

Dufault’s attorney, Timothy Smith, said he does not know whether such a video exists.

Dufault, 35, of Caldwell, pleaded not guilty today to charges related to three victims. After that hearing, prosecutors announced that Dufault is accused of sexually assaulting two more male students.

Authorities allege Dufault had sex with the students on school property and in her car on multiple occasions. All five alleged victims are 15-year-old boys who were students at the high school, prosecutors said.

Dufault has been a language arts teacher at the school for about nine years, prosecutors said.

Smith has described Dufault – a single mother with two small children – as a compassionate and effective teacher. The allegations “run contrary…to her reputation, her character and her background,” Smith said.
